COMPANY CLASSES
We will be holding auditions this year for all our company groups and we are so excited to be adding a new Junior Jazz Company. To be a part of the company classes you still have to take your regular dance class during the week and be in AT LEAST one ballet class per week. Your teacher will determine which class you are eligible for. Dancers in these classes will take part in different competitions throughout the year such as, Brandon Festival, and at least two Winnipeg competitions. Keep in mind you will still take part in the Brandon Festival with your regular dance class during the week. The purpose of this second class is to give all our dancers exactly what they desire. If your child is in dance purely for the joy, fun, and discipline, their regular class provides them with all they need. But if they are also interested in having a more difficult disciplined and competitive class being a part of the Company will do just that. There will also be a mandatory purchase of a Company jacket with other attire available. There is also a core/strengthening class for the Senior Company students (this class is optional for intermediate company) to have prior to their Company jazz class and a jazz technique for Intermediate jazz. These classes are required but will have a special reduced rate! (Junior Company dancers may take the core strengthening class as well)
DANCE EXAMS
For those looking for an extra challenge, opportunity to prepare for dance exams with the Al Gilbert Syllabus and ADAPT Syllabus for Tap and Jazz and Royal Academy of Dance for Ballet is offered to all students. While exam preparation is educational and fun, it also offers students opportunities to develop the work ethic and sense of pride that comes with setting and achieving goals. In addition to success in dance examinations, under the guidance of committed and caring instructors, Steppin' Time dancers have showcased their skills in competitions and festivals outside Brandon , including Gold Honours Awards at the Manitoba Provincial Dance Festival. Steppin' Time dancers have also been selected to attend the Royal Winnipeg Ballet and National Ballet of Toronto professional summer school. There have also been dancers who have continued they professional training at Quinte Ballet School, Randolph Academy of the Arts, and A.M.D.A. in New York!.

Technical Choreography which focuses on control, posture and strength. Ballet complements all styles of dance. Our program uses the Royal Academy of Dance (R.A.D.) ballet syllabus which originated in England and is taught world-wide. The basis of ballet technique is the turned-out position of the legs and feet. Our ballet classes work on improving alignment, strength, flexibility and musicality. Ballet pointe classes are available to those students who, at the discretion of the Ballet instructor, are recognized to be ready.

"Lyrical"
Lyrical dance is a dance style that combines elements of ballet, modern and Jazz dance techniques. It is commonly set to popular music with vocals or just instrumental bars. The name lyrical comes from the word "lyrics" because dancers use the lyrics of a song or instrumental music to inspire them to do certain movements or show expression. The goal of a lyrical dancer is to use gesture, facial expression, and controlled movements in order to execute their movements and emotions fully. Besides emotional connection to music, lyrical dance typically encourages use of articulation, line, weight, and movement qualities.
